Over the past month, Sheboygan-based commercial print provider Franzen Graphics, known nationally for the production of point-of-purchase displays and high-volume printing, has engineered and converted a portion of their facility to the production of protective face shields. This effort comes amid a national outcry for personal protective equipment (PPE) by healthcare and front-line workers deemed essential during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Franzen Graphics’ engineered a design that allowed the production of face shields at a much faster rate than traditional face shield production. Franzen Graphics can produce face shields in 10 mils to 20 mils clear plastic, allowing it to be cleaned and disposed of when necessary. The prototype’s material is less expensive to produce in comparison to other face shields, is fast to manufacture, and is flat before assembly, allowing rapid and cost-effective shipping.
“We challenged our R&D team to figure out a way to produce as many face shields as possible as fast as possible. We knew storage and shipping space was going to be critical, and their design innovated delivery, storage, and production capacity. I’m very proud of what our team has produced in such a short time and the impact we have had. We know our front-line health care professionals need our help to beat this viral threat, and this was our way of contributing,” said Justin Webb, CEO of Franzen Graphics and owner of Sun Graphics Media Company.
Franzen Graphics has shipped over 150,000 units in 3 weeks for some of the nation’s largest hospital systems and manufacturers, including the HSHS Hospital system and Mt. Sinai hospital in New York, NY, whose region has been hit the hardest by the outbreak.
“We are thrilled that so many people have learned about our protective face shields, but we know there are still so many people in need of these face shields. We are going to continue to reach out and offer our support to any essential business that can be protected by our face shields. This is our way of getting in the fight against COVID-19.” said Nick Franzen, VP of Operations at Franzen Graphics, a Sun Graphics Media Company.
