A’s baseball team hands out awards for past season

Sheboygan A’s shortstop Jake Falish was named the team’s most valuable player and most valuable defensive player at the annual Sheboygan Athletic Club Awards Dinner Jan. 4 at the Elks Lodge.

Falish, who came to the A’s from the Kenosha Kings, hit .313 and led the team in games played, plate appearances, at-bats, runs scored, hit by pitch, stolen bases and total bases.

On the defensive side, he had .937 fielding percentage and led in assists and double plays.

Drew Nuanes (7-1, 3.40), Brad Rindfleisch (4-2 with three saves, and a team-high 62 strikeouts) and Eric Schmitz (tops in starts, complete games, innings, earned run average) were named tri-pitchers of the year.

Jimmy Juergensen was selected rookie of the year after hitting .324 with four home runs and 28 runs batted in.

Catcher Logan Vietmeier won Derek Loomans’ Manager’s Award and Vietmeier and Mark Wanner won General Manager Denny Moyer’s Sine Qua Non Award.

Club awards went to Eric Hasenstein (fan of the year), Tom and Terri Behrens of Boneck Printng, Inc. (sponsor of the year) and John Ballhorn (club’s special award).

Tom Willis also won the Golden A Award for spearheading the Wildwood Park Lighting Project.
