Russian classical ballet to perform Swan Lake

On Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. the National Ballet Theatre of Odessa will perform live the classic Swan Lake at the Stefanie H. Weill Center in Sheboygan. This full-scale ballet production features 55 professionals who have toured the globe and earned a first-class international reputation. Swan Lake is a ballet in four acts with one intermission. This romantic tale of true love, based on German legend, is performed live and tells the story of a heroic young prince as he works to free the beautiful swan maiden from an evil spell. Choreography is after Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, it is staged by Yuriy Vasyuchenko and set to music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

Elena Baranovskaya is the artistic director of the ballet. Prima ballerina is Elena Dobryanskaya; she is an honored artist of Ukraine. Principal dancers include Aleksandra Vorobyeva, Olga Vorobyeva, Sergey Dotsenko (also an honored artist of Ukraine), and Andrey Pisarev. All have earned accolades, awards, and honors throughout their careers.

The Odessa company who will perform is from one of the most recognized, prestigious institutions of classical ballet in Russia and boasts an extremely varied repertoire, carrying the honor and charged with preserving the precious heritage of the great Russian ballets. Worldwide audiences have been fortunate to see these ballerinas perform locally without having to travel to Russia.
