Two North athletes honored

North’s Austin Thyes is one of four boys in Division 1 to be named WIAA Scholar Athlete.

Thirty-two students across the state received the honor, which is based on both athletic and academic achievement. A total of 823 seniors were nominated from 417  schools

Thyes has a 4.0 grade-point average and ranks No. 1 in a class of 328 Golden Raiders.

He will attend the University of Wisconsin in the fall.

And North freshman Will Hayon was named the area’s boys swimmer of the year at the Wisconsin High School Sports Awards May 8 in Appleton.

Eight nominees were chosen in the sport, but Hayon came out on top.

That’s nothing new, since Hayon was the first boys swimmer from his school to win a state championship in over 50 years this past season. And he became just the third Golden Raider to take first at state when he won the 50-yard freestyle.
