North baseball players Ian Merry and Kyle Wesener earned all-Fox River Classic Conference.

They each received honorable mention after not making the all-FRCC team a year ago.

“It was real exciting,” Merry said. My goal at the beginning of the year was to be on the all-conference team.

Merry, a senior catcher who will play at UW-Platteville, was his team’s biggest offensive threat and likely most consistent hitter, according to coach Steve Goes.

“He did a real nice job behind the plate,” he said. “The hard part about getting Ian a second-team all-conference honor is the player of the year was an unanimous first-teamer as a catcher. And out of the 10 teams in the league, nine of the coaches nominated their catcher for all-conference. So for Ian, even to get honorable mention, is pretty good considering the number of guys that were nominated and number of quality of catchers that there were in our league.”

Wesener, a junior infielder, was on junior varsity in 2021.

He got a couple of opportunities early on in a pinch-hitting role, hit the ball hard a couple of times and eventually got a chance to start.

“He kept hitting the ball hard and eventually he was a guy we didn’t take off the field,” Goes said. “So he was a real pleasant surprise for us offensively and put together a real nice year. He kept learning the game as the season went on.”
