SOFTBALL PREVIEW

TEAMS AT A GLANCE

NORTH

Junior infielder Ally Wagner made all-conference second team in 2019 thanks to a team-high .424 batting average. Senior catcher Ashley Thaves received honorable mention. So expectations for this year are as high as they’ve been in quite some time, according to coach Chris Lenz. … “We’ve been playing together for the last three years,” he said. “Last year we would have had no seniors. So this group has been able to gel and overcome the loss of last year and put their sole focus on achieving the goals that they’ve set forth for themselves We have a very experienced team returning with a lot of very softball-smart girls.  I’m looking forward to what this season holds.”

SOUTH

The Redwings will play a JV schedule this season because 13 girls are in the program, with eight of them either freshmen or sophomores. There are two seniors, including Brianna Schaefer, who has been on varsity every season. … “We trying to just look to the future of our program,” coach Kelly Dohse said. “And in a year where things are kind of messed up due to COVID anyway, we’re trying to take advantage of an opportunity to build our program and be competitive at a level at which we should be playing based on the make up of our team and the kids we have.”
