Three girls from Sheboygan made all-conference basketball teams, including South’s Halle Boldt, who set a school record earlier this season.
The junior made all-Fox River Classic honorable mention thanks to a team-best 10.1 points per game and 2.3 assists per outing.
Boldt’s 36 points broke South’s record for most in a game by a girl, surpassing the previous mark of 30.
This was her third season on varsity and she also led the Redwings in scoring last season.
“She improved greatly between court confidence, confidence in herself, confidence in her teammates, and I think the strides she made from last year to the end of this year was remarkable,” South coach Ellyn Hansen said. “That’s a credit to her self-discipline and her work ethic.”
NORTH’S BELMORE HONORED, TOO: North’s Emma Belmore, another junior, also received all-FRCC honorable mention.
She contributed 8.8 points (5.1 last year), 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game, and also shot 37.3% from three-point range.
In conference games, she ranked 16th with an average of 9.6 points and was second in three-point shooting (43.1%).
Golden Raiders’ coach Keith Conway calls her a playmaker and a solid defender.
“She pretty much makes everything happen for us, being the point guard,” he said. “She’s a hard worker. … She sees the floor extremely well, handles the ball well, understands the game.”
ZYLSTRA MAKES ALL-BIG EAST: Christian junior Maddy Zylstra was another honorable mention selection, this time representing the Big East Conference.
This was her third year on varsity and second as a starter, and despite having an injured knee, she led the Eagles with 5.8 rebounds per game to go with 5.9 points.
The injury limited her in practice at the beginning of the season and it would flare up sometimes after that.
But Christian coach Brad Bulkow says he would still get a consistent effort from her throughout the year.
“Her sustained effort, her desire, not having much on the inside – she was a good post player for us as well as could drive it and at the end of the season was hitting some three-pointers as well – rebounding, a little bit of everything,” he said. “Getting to the free-throw line as well.”
