Legion baseball team now playing with full deck

Sheboygan Legion Post 83 finally had a full baseball roster.

After not having one the first four games because of North’s advancement to a sectional final and then graduation, the entire team helped earn a 5-2 victory over Watertown on Thursday to give Sheboygan a 3-2 record entering the weekend.

“That’s all right, it gave other guys an opportunity that I hadn’t coached all spring to watch and get to know their strengths, stuff like that,” Sheboygan manager Steve Goes said. “You only graduate from high school once, so they should enjoy that.”

Jacob Neese finished with three hits and three runs batted in against Watertown, Ethan Scherg picked up the win on the mound and Nick Ackstulewicz got the save.

Strong pitching and defense is what has carried Post 83 through the first five games, and Goes says this is the most depth his legion team has had.

“The key is for everyone to understand their role and realize that with this many guys on the team, not everyone is going to get to play everyday,” he said. “When they get that opportunity, take that opportunity and run with it.”
