“The universe is the limit” Girls’ sights and spirits soar at Aviation Day

Encouraging girls to (quite literally) aim high was the goal of the first Girl Scouts of Manitou Council Aviation Day on October 26 at Sheboygan County Airport’s  Aviation Heritage Center.

“My dream is to be the first woman on Mars,” said Lillian Pociask, 10, of Kohler. “The universe is the limit!” added an ebullient Fynley Bouck, 11, also of Kohler, as she leapt upward for emphasis.

Man found guilty of 2017 killing

Oostburg resident Sergio Ochoa, 43, has been found guilty in the 2017 killing of his cousin and his cousin’s friend.

According to court records, a jury found Ochoa guilty on two counts of first-degree reckless homicide. Those charges were amended from first-degree intentional homicide on Oct. 29, which was the seventeenth and final day of trial.

Proposed county budget cuts tax rate for fourth year

The proposed 2020 Sheboygan County Budget will be distributed to the County Board on October 22 and includes a property tax levy increase of 2.41%, or $1,190,690.  The proposed property tax rate is $5.22, a decrease of 1.43%, or 8 cents, from the 2019 rate of $5.30.  As a result, on a $100,000 home, property taxes will decrease $8.  The 2020 budget reflects the 4th consecutive year the property tax rate has gone down.
