Matczak vaults to the top

With the help of vault champion Elle Matczak, Sheboygan’s co-op gymnastics team finished second at the EWC Conference Meet.

The sophomore Matczak also finished fourth in both the all-around and bars, fifth on the floor and 12th on the balance beam at the Eastern Wisconsin championship.

Last year, she was 16th on the vault and 10th in the all-around.

“Elle did great on the vault,” coach Kristen Buschke said. “She’s been working on controlling the landing on it and it came together at the end of our season.”

Naomi Harder, another sophomore, placed third on the vault, fifth in the all-around, sixth on the bars and 12th on the floor.

Senior Kailey Kaltenbrun ended third on the floor, fourth on the beam, fifth in the all-around, 12th on the vault and 15th on the bars.

Elliot Zugel, a junior, came in sixth in the vault, ninth on the beam, 10th in the all-around, 11th on the floor and 17th on the bars.

Other contributors included: sophomore Lily Smith (15th on floor), freshman Lily Matczak (17th on beam, 18th on vault), and junior Alexis Norris (24th on bars).

“The team energy at conference was awesome,” Buschke said. “The girls all came together and were cheering so loud.

We had a lot of fun, and that’s what it’s all about. I’m really proud of them.”
