Tourney to help addicts is set

The first Addiction Awareness Softball Tournament will be held Sept. 3-5 at the Sheboygan Wildwood Complex.

South graduate Anthony Jakum came up with the idea. He is a recovering addict and has been clean for 13 months.

“I think it’s super important for addicts to know there’s people out there that are behind them and they care, that they are not forgotten about,” he said.

Jakum, who is in college, wants the tournament to become an annual thing. He also wants to create a non-profit agency that can benefit from the money raised by the teams.

The entry fee per team is $125 and there will be cash prizes for the top three squads. The registration deadline is Aug. 20. Those interested should contact Jakum at (720) 788-0453) or Mark Champeau at (920)- 254-1365.

“I’m just very proud of Anthony,” said Champeau, who also graduated from South and is the president of the Midlake Softball Association.
