North’s golf team is spending two days in the Wisconsin Dells, but this trip has nothing to do with water parks. The Golden Raiders are competing in the second and final day of the Division 1 state golf tournament today at Wild Rock..

“I knew if we could come out and play decent, we were just as good as everyone else,” coach Craig Walters said.

North qualified for their third state in the last four seasons last week by taking second place in the Plymouth Sectional held at Quit Qui Oc.

Sophomore Mason Schmidtke earned medalist honors with a 2-over-par 73. Senior Evan Spaulding tied for third (75), sophomore Hogan Miller placed fifth (76), senior Parker Reinhart ended 20th (85) and senior Nathan Hamann finished 26th (88).

Miller had the shot of the day on the third hole, despite having to hit his ball over some trees.

“He actually skulled the shot,” Walters said. “It caught the last branch of the last tree, knocked it down, it went onto the green, rolled up and went into the hole for a 2. … I was standing there and I looked at him and said, ‘you’ve got to take them when you get them.'”

SOUTH REPRESENTED AT SECTIONALS: Senior Nick Kolar finished in 18th place with an 83, one stroke ahead of senior teammate Owen Beumier.
