Sheboygan North twins Cordelia and Louisa Damkot will compete in the Alternative Fall Girls Tennis State Championship Thursday in Lake Geneva. The juniors qualified at sectionals on Thursday.

“It’s really exciting,” Cordelia said. “It’ll be fun that both of us get to play now.”

Cordelia improved to 9-0 at No. 2 singles after winning the sectional title thanks to victories over girls she already beat this season. She won the final, 6-3, 6-1, against an opponent from Ashwaubenon.

The key was to stay mentally tough because the first time they played it was a close match.

“I just had to focus and not worry about what it was like last time,” Cordelia said.

Louisa finished third at No. 1 singles after going 2-1 at sectionals.

She also qualified for state last season but lost in the first round. Her likely advice to her sister is to not be nervous.

“You have to play like it’s any other match and not think about the fact you’re at state,” Louisa said. “Because I definitely played nervously when I was there last year.”

Coach Sam Hopp was hoping to get his No. 1 doubles team of juniors Estelle Leonhard and Emily Fisher to state as special qualifiers, but the meeting to find out was held after deadline.
