School board candidates to outline views in forum

The Education Committee of the Sheboygan Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Initiative is hosting a virtual “Meet the Candidates” event for the upcoming Sheboygan Area School District School Board election. The event will be on Wednesday, February 10th, from 6:30-7:30 pm. The connection information for the event is included below.

This event will be co-hosted by the Ulrich Center for Faith, Ethics, and Justice at Lakeland University, and will be open to the public. The first part of the event will be a presentation about the role of the school board, describing board duties, responsibilities, and the election process.

After that, each of the seven candidates on the primary ballot will have five minutes to share their platform with the community. Candidates will not be answering questions during the live event, but audience members will be able to submit questions during the event to be used for the second event in March. The date for that event is to be determined, but it will happen before the general election in April, and only the six candidates who are on the general ballot will be at that event.

The Sheboygan Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Initiative was formed by Alderperson Mary Lynne Donohue in 2019 to discuss and address Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging (DEIB) in Sheboygan. The group started with 6 people and has expanded to 60+ people with a major increase in June and July of 2020. Approximately 30-40 people are active within the general group and/or committees. The members represent communities and school districts throughout Sheboygan County along with a variety of backgrounds, affiliations and folks that were born here and folks that moved here recently. The Steering Committee gave an overview presentation in October 2020. To learn more about the organization that presentation is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJvAQmKE8tQ

All 7 candidates plan on participating in the event on February 10th from 6:30-7:30 P.M. Anyone can join the meeting through the information below.

A second meeting will be scheduled after the primary, to include the remaining 6 candidates.
