SPORTS BRIEFS

Calling all hoopsters

Sheboygan County YMCA youth basketball leagues will be held on Saturdays from Jan. 9-March 13 for boys and girls from 5K-Grade 5.

Covid-19 guidelines will be in place.

The registration deadline is Nov. 6 for the league, which emphasizes sportsmanship, skill development, teamwork and equal participation.

Parents of registered players will be called and/or emailed by their coach by Dec. 1.

One-hour practices begin in December and will be held once a week and arranged by coaches.

Volunteer coaches are also needed for the program, and there will be a meeting for those interested at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 24 at the Sheboygan Falls YMCA (a Zoom option will also be available).

For more information or to receive a registration form, call the YMCA at (920) 451-8000 or (920) 467-2464, or visit http://www.sheboygancountyymca.org and click on the forms link.

Walk/run coming up

The Road America Classic, a 4-mile walk/run to benefit myTeam Triumph Wisconsin – which supports athletes with disabilities in the state – will be held on Oct. 31.

For more than 40 years, the American Cancer Society has hosted a walk/run event at Road America in late October.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 and that cancer patients – many with compromised immune systems – are some of the most vulnerable to the pandemic, the organization will hold its annual event virtually.

This allows everyone, including cancer patients, survivors and their caregivers, to participate safely.

Participants are encouraged to join the Road America Classic as an individual or form a team with their family, church, school, club, or company.

MyTeam Triumph Wisconsin recently held its 12 Hours of Road America event and raised over $112,000 for athletes with disabilities.
