One person is dead following a Sheboygan house fire Monday night.

The Sheboygan Fire Department said an alarm was raised around 9:50 p.m. A structure fire was reported on the 400 block of Michigan Avenue.

Firefighters arrived on scene in four minutes and “found heavy fire coming from the second floor of the building,” a City of Sheboygan Fire Department press release said.

Upon making entrance to the home, responders extinguished the flames and located one victim, identified as Russell L. Doxtator III, 44, of Sheboygan.

The victim was hospitalized, but didn’t survive, according to the press release.

A firefighter was also injured during the incident and treated on-scene.

Three other residents were displaced from the home. Damage to the building was estimated at $70,000.

No other information was immediately available.

The Town of Sheboygan Fire Department, Kohler Fire Department, City of Sheboygan Falls Fire Department and Cedar Grove Fire Department aided in the response.

Residents are encouraged to have working smoke detectors in their homes at all times.
