Boy on bicycle struck and killed by city truck

A 9-year-old Sheboygan boy was struck and killed by a City of Sheboygan garbage truck at North 14th Street and Center Avenue Wednesday, Oct. 9. The victim was identified by a police statement Thursday as Roman Martin.

The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. The Sheboygan Police Department said in a release that the truck driver is a 35-year-old man who has worked for the city approximately two years. Police said another 55-year-old man was conducting garbage collection at the back of the truck. The second man has worked for the city about 21 years, police said.

“While the accident investigation continues, this tragic accident affects the whole community and the City of Sheboygan offers condolences to the family of the young boy.”

According to police, the Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating. 

The child was riding his bicycle at the time, authorities said.

“This is obviously a tragic loss for [the] family and they request that their privacy be respected while they grieve the loss of their family member.”
