South, Christian out after losses

Sheboygan Lutheran extended its season Tuesday.

The girls basketball team, seeded seventh in the Division 5 playoffs, eliminated No. 10 University Lake/Trinity Academy, 63-12, in the first round.

The 8-14 Crusaders, winners of three of their last four games, held a 49-8 lead at halftime and their defense allowed only two girls to score.

Lutheran’s Josie Pingel had a game-high 14 points, which is one shy of her season best.

Katelyn Witte added 12 points, and Liz Matz and Emma Egbert each finished with nine.

The Crusaders travel to seventh-seeded Burlington Catholic Central on Friday.

Last year, they beat the Hilltoppers by 23 points in the postseason.

Manitowoc Lincoln 55, Sheboygan South 45: The 17th-seeded Lancers won the Division 2 first-round game to end the No. 16 Redwings’ season with a 1-21 record. Their only win came against Lincoln by five points on Feb. 5 after losing to the Lancers by 11 on Jan. 4.

Living Word Lutheran 56, Sheboygan Christian 32: The Eagles finish with a 3-20 record after dropping the Division 5 first round game. Fifth-seeded Lutheran outscored No. 12 Christian, 29-14, in the first half.
