What a way to find out who’s the best team in the conference.
Two of the three boys basketball teams that finished tied for first in the Big East regular-season standings – Sheboygan Lutheran and Howards Grove – will meet tonight in the championship game of the league tournament.
“I’m super excited,” Tiger Jack Baldwin said. “The last time we played them was our only loss this year. We’re definitely looking to try to get the win this time around as well as a little bit of revenge.”
Lutheran, ranked No. 1 in the Division 5 state coaches’ poll, visits third-ranked Howards Grove (Division 4) at 7:15 tonight in a rematch of the Crusaders’ 77-68 win over the Tigers on Dec. 8.
Jacob Ognacevic finished with 31 points and 15 rebounds for Lutheran, and Howards Grove got 27 points from Will Rautmann and 20 from Baldwin.
Lutheran also knows about revenge, as the Crusaders were 12-0 in the Big East on the final day of conference play but suffered a 12-point loss at Oostburg on Feb. 4 that allowed the Flying Dutchmen and Howards Grove to join them in first place.
But Lutheran defeated Oostburg, 44-39, Thursday in the tournament semifinals to improve to 19-1.
Howards Grove, 18-1, has won 13 games in a row since the loss to Lutheran.
