Opinion – Turtles and Hares

To the Editor,

Election year brings out the turtles and the hares. The turtles do the heavy lifting. They show up at meetings, volunteer for committees, and do the behind-the-scenes work that is neither glamorous nor recognized. They are dependable and committed. In contrast, the hares hop in claiming that they bring fresh perspectives. But they never do the heavy lifting. They never show up for the hard work. They say they deserve leadership roles because, well, they are hares.

On April 2nd Town of Wilson residents will be voting for Town Supervisors. While The Beacon does not publish endorsement letters, I urge residents to examine the candidates through the lens of turtles and hares. We don’t need flash. We need dependable and committed Town Supervisors with a track record of getting the job done.
