To the editor: We get what we vote for

We get what we vote for, “good and hard.”

Having grown up in Seattle, I am now very happy to be living in Sheboygan, a refuge of relatively safe streets and cheerful Fourth of July parades.  But the same forces that are destroying Seattle, Minneapolis, Portland, and Chicago are coming for our small city and county as well.  The comfortable old order of “one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all” is buckling all round us.

Times like these offer no routine elections, mayoral or otherwise.  If we are to survive as an oasis of decency and order in today’s environment,  we will need stronger families, more serious churches and schools,  and a more honest press and open internet–a tall order.  We also will need to elect leaders with an appreciation for our heritage of liberty through law and with the toughness to hold the line against the forces arrayed against us.

We will have to be smarter than the sad, woke citizens of Seattle, Minneapolis, Portland, and Chicago.  Sheboygan has a mayoral primary February 16.  Time to do our homework.
